To creat a successful fabric furnishings scheme in a seaside home, take your cues from the textures and colors of nature. Fabrics such as nubbly linens, rough burlap and watered silk are perfect for bringing the outdoors inside, while a palatte of the sky blues, cloudy whites, and soft grays creates a soothing harmony in a coastal setting.

Although plain textural fabrics should be the foundation of your design scheme, introducing an occasional splash of pattern is a good way to prevent an tinerior from appearing too tonal. Fabric designs that incoporate blowsy florals or bold stripes are not a good idea, however. Instead, go for the simple tickings, ginghams or small-scale florals that reflect the informal character of seaside style.

Cotton is a favored fabric in coastal interiors, because of its crisp appearance and lightness. Available in various textures and forms including cotton canvas, brushed cotton, terrycloth, muslin, and denim, cotton is wonderfully versatile and can be used for a wide range of decorative purposes, from bedding to curtains, and upholstery. When selecting fabrics for your decorating needs pay as much as you can afford because the more expensive the material, the softer and more appealing it will become over time.

Linen is another fabric that ages well. Available in natural colors including ivery, tan, gray, and gree, linen is especially desirable in hot climates since it says a degree or two below room termperature. Linen also resists dirt and can hold up to 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp, making it ideal for humid conditions too.

Installing a chandelier from the ceiling is essential to completing a room. It will light up room and definitely make it cozy during the evening breeze. Selecting a chandelier is like selecting your wedding ring - very personal. The best one for a peaceful coastal living room is one with some clear glass details and some tear drops in aged wrought iron frame.

Hallways in great American manor houses were often gathering places for
guests.  When "calling," it was customary to be recieved in a spacious
hall, where one's card could be placed in a calling card receiver, often
held on a side table, perhaps a coat or hat were taken to be hung up.  A
chair or bench was offered for the waiting vistior or perhaps they were
taken to a parlor to wait.

Present day hallways where family and friends are received are also called
entryways.  It is located at the front entrance of a home. Hallways have
downsized and re-purposed in comparision to the spacious areas of earlier
architectural styles. It is now served as an area to prepare to go out.
The entryway furnishings may include a chest for storage, a gorgeous mirror and an
ocassional chair or two flanking the entryway chest. Perhaps it may include
an entry bench.

Proper lighting is always important to complete a room.  It could improve
the aesthetic values while serving the functional purposes.  It is not about
sticking an energy saving bulb and click, click.  Consider the all styles,
forms, finishes for each piece before bringing your purchase home.  Take
pictures of them with cell phone.  Open the pictures and envision them in
your own home.  Better yet, bring pictures of your rooms to your local,
independent home furnishing stores using a camera or cell phone.  Hold them
next to the lamps or chandeliers.  Ask the sales people for their opinions
or bring your friend or family members.

Another point to consider is the 3 way lighting option for the floor and
table lamps.  Most recently, lamps come standard with 3 way lighting.  If
not they can be converted for an extra charge by area lighting repairmen.
Personally, it is not worth it to convert an accent table lamp to a 3 way
lighting option.  The old shades maybe too small, thin, or short.  The
alteration costs could be a big disappointment.
